MNT - The Interview....Hmmm Yessss?

MNT known for mcing on Grime with well known crew Midlands Mafia, he know is doing his thing strong in the Bassline scene with everyone catting his lingo? phrases like 'And Yessss' 'Hmm Yessss' and 'Get Loco' being the standard talk, so i had to holla at the main man to find out what's good ...and yessss!

MNT, What ends are you from?
I'm from Leicester 'Le2 Block' bang bang...

What music did you grow up listening to?
Hip hop,Garage,Grime,Bashment the usual shit lol....

Lol so you listened to that when you were like 5? what was around you growing up?
Revival,Ragga Lovers Rock all that, my dad was a soundman so i listened to all of that stuff from birth...

Ok so when did you get into music?
I was on the Rapping ting first,i started that when i was about 11/12,then as garage came through i jumped on that...

So like who got you into music, who were your influences?
I grew listening to Wu Tang, old skool Busta Rhymes,Jay Z, Nas,Mobb Deep dem man made me wanna spit in the beginning but for me bussing out as a UK mc i liked man like Wiley,Shady aka Shade1,Heartless,Vader, them mcs i always looked up to...

Ok lets talk Grime which as you know is my favourite subject lol, when did you get into that?
When i was about 15/16 i always used to go to London and stay at my cousins on da school holidays and moretime all i used to do there was koch and listen to da radio stations all day and recorded the shows on tape. Them days when pay as you go and heartless vs buss, them days there like when grime first came through it was a big hype, every one was on it and moretime i was always banging the music so i just thought i might aswell get on dat and i knew i could do it so i just tried a ting...

So when did you join the Midlands Mafia Crew and is the crew still about?
That was like the end of 2002 times,Shady hollered at me asking me if i wanted to join up because he heard about me from doing sets with DJ Total and my mandem, then he just brought me through one time. The crew is still there but man are just doing different bits and bobs right now,Shades is on the Hip hop ting,Macka is on the dnb and me im on the bassline, man are just makin ends meet you feel me g,whatever pays da bills...

Before we talk Bassline , do you think Grime is Dead?
Nah Grime aint dead, as long as man like Skepta and them are still there and Channel U are still pumpin vids it wont be dead, its just a bit more artistic now, the levels have gone up thats why its so hard to bust through Grime cos' you have to have something completly different that makes you stand out from da rest and i do stand out in Bassline, i wernt the first Bassline mc in the game but man knew about me from grime days from when i first joined maf...

What was it about the Bassline sound and scene that attracted you?
It got Grimey to be honest,i didnt like all that Niche stuff at first, all my mans where on it but i wernt feeling it until around late 2006 when i started to really like it...

So being an Mc on Bassline do you think it works, does it feel the same like say if you were performing at Sidewinder or a Grime rave when you do Bassline raves?
Nuffin' can fuck with getting a reload in a big dance,i did that at Sidewinder nuff times and i do the same in Bassline, the shit aint really that much different apart from when peer dickheads try and tek the mic and mc all ova bassline for the whole rave im not in that, thats Grime,Bassline aint that, the mcing on Bassline should stay on tunes only and for live pa's...

Do you rate any mc's at all in the Bassline scene and do you think your levels above in terms of bars and flow or do you think its not about that?
Yeah i rate nuff man still, B1z is catchy and keeps it sho,you cant mess wid that,Jstar is big no one can tell me no diffrent, B.O.D.R are pioneers and they brought in the brownins,Murks,Bomma B, Trilla all them man are gwarnin' i cant knock none of em'...

Ok lol... lets talk about this Hmm yesss, And yesss, Get Loco business, where do you get these phrases from, you got the whole scene saying these words like say its new road talk?
LOL...you dont wanna no where i got them from lol,mad weekend benders leave your yard Friday come back Tuesday and all your doing is partying...imagine what you can probably think of when your mash up and your with peoples...

Lol them way there ye seen lol...

Ok so what can people expect from the LOCO guy for the rest of 2008?
More loco music, hopefully a video in the Summer of 'Hmmm Yessss', a mixtape plus much more just watch dis' space.

The Chipmunk's vs T2 - 'Why'

LOL hold tight Sharnell on this one still...

On a serious note i personally think that T2's second release shoudl've been this Original version featuring the H.U.D's Sharnell aka (Princess Of Bassline). Its more in your ears than 'Gonna Be Mine'...3rd single maybe?

Setting The Levels.

Griminal is currently the best younger in the grime scene at the moment in my mind. Hold Tight Little Nasty on this one aswell.

Catch Grim at ChockABlock - Friday 28th March.

TC - Englands Cold

This video has been on Channel U for a while now and this is one of the best tunes on the whole station (no sendage to the other 'TALENT' on the channel)he talks realness on this which is good, we need a reality check every now and again. TC from south london has had a few videos out but he hasn't had enough credit for them. I would class this guy as one of the best mcs from south london based on this tune alone.

I Will Be Your Bassline?

So i went to my bredrin Don P's event in Coventry on Saturday and it was live, alot of beautifal ladies in the place, alot of goons... nice and ghetto how i like it. The bassline dj's especailly DJ Murkz did alot on the decks. Although i think i missed the big DJ Q vs Supa D clash i got there a bit late, im not going to review it as my camera died (cheap Panasonic batteries i thought they were top class like?)
Anyway here's some footage from the darnce.

The Truth Hurts.

O.G's - More Money More Obstacles

This promo video is alot featuring Young Dot, N.E and Jendor. The production is big, this track brings back memories of me being young on the blocks in South London for some reason,i dont know if it is just me but i think about music differently...lol. N.E is going deep sending for his old Essential members, its a shame because it seemed like Essentials were all good friends and look what it has come to now...shit happens i suppose.

GUILT?

I was contacted by Badness today regarding a nu british gangster film called GUILT?It is still in the making at the moment but its basically the whole theme of is about people being sly and snaking on drug sellers and gansters in the area they live in and it catches up with them and the snakes start feeling guilty and you can imagine what the rest will be like. It will feature a few musical scences from well known artists in the game, imagine Dubplate Drama as a film but more greezier.
Actors and Actresses are still needed for parts.
